This was a highly entertaining, well-fought contest to end the season, played on a large and smooth pitch which allowed the Yellows to employ their fluent, passing style to perfection.
Despite the absence of Woodham's most dangerous striker, the Yellows put on far and away their best defensive performance of the season.
Ben and Aaron were solid as a rock in the centre with Captain Christian at right back holding and releasing to start the majority of our attacking moves.
We closed down in twos and threes when necessary and Harry and
Ev again provided an aggressive and formidable barrier in midfield. Henry, too, was razor sharp today, racing from his area on a number of occasions to snuff out the long ball.
The greens were equally well-drilled at the back, however, and shots and chances were few and far between throughout the season end game.
It took a speculative long distance punt to break the deadlock - one of only two or three chances that fell to the home side.
We had more opportunities to score, arguably, with Zach, Ellis, Ed and Ev all missing the target.
As Ben's dad, Paul Chater, remarked at the final whistle, the game was a metaphor for our season as a whole: great passing, great discipline, great enthusiasm and great team spirit - but ultimately losing out because of snatched, skewed and sliced shots at the crucial moment.
But when the Yellows play this well, and the game is such a close-fought and sportsmanlike affair, nobody should be concerned about the result.
Congratulations to Coach Charlie for getting the team into such brilliant shape - roll on next season!
Finally, a quick word about the young ref who was absolutely outstanding today.
