Saffron Walden
Stroke Club

The Saffron Walden Stroke Club offers help to local people who have suffered a stroke; with their rehabilitation and reintroduction into the community. All strokes are different so for some people the effects may be relatively minor and may not last long, while others may be left with more serious long term problems.

Common physical problems include issues with movement and balance, vision, swallowing and excessive tiredness. More ‘hidden’ effects include trouble with communication, memory and thinking and changes to emotions which can lead to other problems like depression and anxiety.

The Saffron Walden Stroke Club exists to provide support to both those who have suffered a stroke and their family / carers. We meet every Tuesday at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre in Peaslands Rd, Saffron Walden at 2pm.

Assistance is offered with a wide range of rehabilitative exercises, all performed under the guidance of Registered Exercise Professionals (REPs). Exercise programmes are tailored to the members' specific needs, help combat weakness, numbness and stiffness and strengthen muscles to make them work more efficiently.

In addition, we hold a Social Hour during which we encourage members of the Club, and their family / carers, to meet and talk together. This not only allows them to practice and improve communication, but also to simply be sociable and enjoy each other’s company.

The Club is affiliated to the Stroke Association, the UK’s leading charity dedicated to conquering stroke. We believe everyone has the right to make the best recovery they can after stroke and that is why we are here - to provide the support you need to maximise your quality of life.

So please get in touch with The Saffron Walden Stroke Club and find out how we can help you. Call our Secretary, Jenny Hare, on 01799 599210, or email us at swstrokeclub@gmail.com.

We particularly welcome enquiries from healthcare professionals and carers on behalf of patients who they think would benefit from our services.
