Debden Branch Royal British Legion was formed in 1933 and has been operating successfully since then apart from a short 9 month gap between October 1957 and June 1958, when for some unknown reason the Branch closed temporarily.

In 2014 The Branch belatedly was awarded a Pennant for 50 years continuous service - this Pennant is flown proudly from the Branch Standard!

Essex County Royal British Legion has a total of 11,700 members belonging to some 70 Branches that are split into seven Groups for administrative reasons.

Debden Branch is one of 8  Branches in “C” Group, all located in the Uttlesford District of Essex, the other 7 Branches being Clavering, Dunmow, Felsted, Finchingfield, Saffron Walden, Takeley and Thaxted.

Debden is a very well-recruited, proactive and successful Branch which has seen its strength increase by 478% from 23 to 110 members over a period of three years.

During that time the Branch has been awarded one National RBL Trophy for increased efficiency and a total of 5 County Awards for recruiting and efficiency.

Some 9 Branch Members have received individual awards for their general support for the Branch, and a further 11 members have received awards for their efforts in connection with the annual RBL Poppy Appeal.

Debden Branch RBL is well known for its involvement with the local community and nearby Carver Barracks, home to 33 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) and 101 (City of London) Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal).
