British Legion Branch Recognition

Last month saw the presentation of several awards centred around Debden Branch of the Royal British Legion - to members, supporters and the Branch itself.

Awards of recognition were presented to Mr John Arkwright of Arkwright’s Estate Agents and to Lizzie Edwards and Chris Tripp, the proprietors of The Plough Public House in Debden.

Member John Arkwright was presented with a Branch Certificate of Appreciation for his continuing support, in particular his assistance with the Remembrance Booklet produced by Branch President, Mike Barton.

The Booklet lists all the village parishioners who lost their lives in both World Wars and was published in 2014 to mark the centenary of the start of WW1.

Lizzie Edwards was presented with a well-deserved RBL Branch Certificate of Appreciation for her hard work and efforts in supporting the annual Debden Poppy Appeal.

Debden Branch collected a record £1,676.85 in 2015, an increase for the 5th year running.

Both certificates were presented by Branch Chairman, Michael Clarke.

The Branch itself once again won the coveted RBL “Livermore Cup”, the County Trophy for the most efficient Branch in Essex.

The trophy was presented to Michael Clarke, the recently-elected Branch Chairman, at the County Annual General Conference held in Chelmsford.

Debden Branch has now won Essex County awards for either efficiency or recruiting for the last 4 years running!

Much of the credit for this year’s win must go to the hard-working endeavours of the Committee who are tireless in their efforts to raise the profile of the RBL in their local community and beyond.
