Play The Professionals 2015

The annual “Play The Professionals” charity day took place at Saffron Walden Snooker Club on Sunday, 27 September, to raise money for the Ethan Rees Linwood Memorial Fund.

The professionals were once again represented by Martin O'Donnell and Allan Taylor, both long-time supporters of the charity.

Players were able to challenge Martin and/or Allan in exchange for a donation to the charity, and a steady stream of senior and junior club members ensured that the boys were kept busy all afternoon.

Handicaps up to a fifty point start were awarded according to highest break, which helped one or two challengers to overcome the pros - including our own Russell Huxter, who reminded us all of his class by defeating Allan off of scratch!

Henry, George, Joe and Kieron from the academy all played at least one frame against Martin or Allan, who as always had plenty of words of encouragement for our juniors.

Plenty of big breaks were recorded during the day, but the best was saved until last when Allan (108) and Martin (107) made simultaneous centuries late in the afternoon, which Martin then topped with a magnificent 127 clearance in the very last frame of the day.

All in all it was another super day which was thoroughly enjoyed by those who attended.

Nearly £300 was raised on the day which was subsequently made up to £350, courtesy of a generous donation from the SWDSL committee.

Special thanks to the SWSC for hosting the event and for their on-going support, and to the following local business who donated prizes for the raffle:

Gray Palmer and Goddards Electrical of Saffron Walden and Parrishes Wine Bar and Gifted of Thaxted.
