Our objectives
The fundamental objective of our junior programme is to ensure that each boy and girl that comes through the academy is given every opportunity to fulfill their potential in the game of snooker.
Some may just go on to play the game socially, whilst others will undoubtedly progress to playing in the local snooker leagues. Perhaps one day the academy will be instrumental in producing the first ever snooker professional to hail from the Saffron Walden area - we certainly hope so!
We are committed to ensuring that financial constraints do not become a limiting factor to those boys and girls who are keen to progress in the game of snooker.
Many of our juniors also partake in a variety of other sports and activities, and we are acutely aware of the strain that this can put on the finances of beleaguered parents!
Whilst equipment to play the game is readily available and free to use, there are various other expenses associated with running the academy, such as table fees, the cost of staging tournaments/open days, travelling expenses for competitions outside the area, maintaining the website etc, etc.
It is our aim to subsidise these expenses as far as possible so that our junior boys and girls can enjoy all of the benefits of the academy, whilst the cost to parents is kept to a minimum.
Scholarship
In order to continually improve the academy, we have also recently introduced a snooker scholarship scheme.
Any junior member demonstrating outstanding qualities, such as commitment, a passion for snooker and continued improvement, can benefit from a funded one to one coaching programme, practice sessions with our professionals Martin and Allan, and free table time to assist with their progression in the game.
Looking ahead, we have ambitious plans to introduce more young boys and girls to the wonderful game of snooker, and would welcome the support of local individuals/businesses who feel that they can contribute in any way.
Sponsorship
Perhaps you would like to sponsor one of the junior tournaments we regularly stage throughout the course of the year, or make a donation towards a scholarship for one of our talented juniors?
If you think you can help in any way please contact Kevin Starr on 07713 640265 or email kstarr@hexcl.co.uk.
We would be delighted to hear from you!
The SW junior academy is indebted to both Saffron Snooker Club and our affilliated charity, The Ethan Rees Linwood Memorial Fund, for their ongoing support.
