Thaxted Bowling Club was founded in 1965 when a six-rink lawn green was constructed. The Clubhouse has been refurbished in recent years and a new kitchen has been fitted. In addition a fully licensed bar satisfies the thirst of members on those summer afternoons and evenings.

The Club is a private members club open to men and women, young and old, able and disabled, social membership is also available for those who would like to just take part in our other functions our just enjoy a drink in pleasant surroundings. We provide a high-class venue where everyone can enjoy the game of bowls whilst making and maintaining friendships along the way.

The summer season commences in late April and continues until late September. Members can play as little or as often as they wish, with a variety of men’s, ladies and senior fixtures on offer plus a number of mixed friendlies. In addition, there are a number of internal and external competitions, plus the informal Monday night roll-up.

During the winter months there is an active Carpet Bowls section and Whist Drives are held once a month on a Friday evening.

New members are always welcome at Thaxted and the Club makes special provision for prospective members to come along and play

on Monday evenings with no requirement for ‘the right kit’ just a pair of trainers and with plenty of bowls available to borrow for the evening. Why not come along and give it a go, you can contact the secretary or any member of the committee for further details.

The facilities have also been used by local organisations for meetings and social events during the closed season.

News Update

During the close season with the aid of grants from Viridor Waste Management, Stansted Airport Community Trust, Yardley’s and Thaxted Parish Council we have renewed the timber surrounds to the green and re-laid the paving. We also applied for a grant from the Uttlesford Jubilee Fund and with the money received we invested in a new piece of equipment for the green and refurbished the bar area.
