Thaxted Society
Preserving History

Founded in 1963, the Thaxted Society encourages, promotes and monitors the following:

  • Public interest in, and care for, the beauty, history and character of Thaxted and its surroundings,

  • High standards of architecture and town planning,

  • Preservation, development and improvement of features of general public amenity or historic interest,

  • Planning applications and long term developments concerning Thaxted and its environs.

In addition, the Society publishes The Thaxted Bulletin, twice a year, with Spring and Autumn editions. This high quality publication is the official journal of the Society and as such promotes its views but it also actively attracts contributions on a wide range of subjects from not only Thaxted residents but from all over the UK and, indeed, from farther afield.

The Bulletin is distributed, free of charge, to every household throughout the Parish of Thaxted and to Society members around the world. A subscription to the Thaxted Society costs just £10 per person or £15 per couple for the year - please e-mail for more information.
