Party On The Green
Gt Easton Commemorates WW1

Join in the First World War centenary commemorations in Great Easton on Saturday, September 6th, at this year’s Party on the Green.

The themed, family-orientated gathering will be supporting the Great Dunmow Round Table's Dunmow Ypres Cycle Challenge.

There will be family games, tug-of-war, a BBQ, drinks, tea and cakes and some fantastic live music including local doyens of Jazz, The Sid Bolan Band – all in a closed-road, street party setting.

Fancy dress is, of course, de rigeur and anything from the period is acceptable, from military brass to Downton Abbey look-a-likes. Whatever you choose, wear it with pride – the more people involved the better the effect!

During the day the village will be raising funds from the sales of food and drinks and general collecting with a percentage of the profits going to the BLESMA Charity supported by the Cycle Challenge.

A 2 minute silence will be held in the afternoon and a beacon lit in the evening to honour the fallen.

Easton resident Paul Kemkaran-Thompson, who is participating in the 160-mile Dunmow to Ypres ride, said “we have already raised £31,000 of our £40,000 target, an incredible amount."

"We urge all of Great Easton and the surrounding area to come to the street party, have a great time and help us do our bit for the Armed Forces past and present.”

Paul has been given special permission by the Belgian authorities to lay an additional wreath at the Menin Gate in Ypres, representing the village of Great Easton. A singular honour and one every resident should be proud of.

So, get on down to Easton on Saturday from noon and join in the fun!

Also, put your hand in your pocket and give a little something towards Paul’s endeavour – he’s not going to be able to sit down for weeks! Go to his MyDonate page to contribute.
