Scarecrow Salute
Furneux Festival 2014

Armed only with straw, sacking and a stick or two, the people of Furneux Pelham will do battle with their neighbours again this Saturday, 27th September, in the 28th Annual scarecrow competition at the famous Furneux Festival.

Their fantastic creations will line the streets to welcome visitors to the normally quiet village on the Herts-Essex border.

“This is a celebration of all that we love about our beautiful corner of Hertfordshire,” says Festival organizer Karen Robinson. Fingers'

crossed the festival attracts the glorious autumn sunshine of the last few years!

Once again the legendary 1919 Hispano-Suiza H6 will be the highlight of the classic car rally, in complete contrast to the armoured car which is set to rumble through the streets of the sleepy village.

Great quality local food and entertainment will be to the fore. Last year’s popular Deli returns and people will be able to enjoy food, drinks and music in the marquee with local performers and the Tom Braggins Band.

All the traditional favourites return too: tea, coffee and country store in St Mary’s Church, arts and stalls, hog roast, barbeque, bottle tombola, traditional games, bouncy castles, children’s activities and much much more!

The majority of the money raised at the festival goes towards the upkeep of St Mary’s church and visitors are invited to explore the building, with local history experts on hand to point out its secrets and explain its many unusual and historic features.

So get on down to Furneux Pelham on Saturday 27th between 10.30am and 4pm for a fantastic family day out!
