Cantate Concert - 09/11/14
WW1 Reflections In Cambridge

Celebrated Stortford-based youth choir Cantate, fresh from double gold medal winning success at this year’s World Choir Games, present a multi-dimensional reflection on the First World War at the impressive West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge on Sunday, November 9th.

Entitled “100 Years And The Drum Is Still Beating” and featuring video, narration and high-quality choral singing, this unique concert highlights not only the brutal savagery of war but also the ultimate redemption that tremendous sacrifice has given all of us today.

“Virtuoso of the arts” (The Times) Matthew Sharp acts as cellist, singer and narrator in a programme that includes choral music by Karl Jenkins (The Armed Man), folksongs and poetry of the war era (In Flanders Fields, In Remembrance), cello music by Arvo Párt (Spiegel im Spiegel) and Rachmaninov (Vocalise) and vocal solos by Butterworth (A Shropshire Lad).

As well as showcasing the young singers’ outstanding choral skills,

the Cantate percussion team will also premiere a dramatic new multimedia work by Music Director, Graham Instrall.

This Cantate concert provides a fantastic opportunity to get involved in the First World War centenary commemorations and experience a truly unique performance featuring one of the best youth choirs in the UK.
