Uttlesford District Council is backing a nationwide campaign to get half a million people clearing up their local community. The Great British Spring Clean, organised by the charity Keep Britain Tidy, will sweep across the nation on 2, 3 and 4 March.

Businesses in Uttlesford are being alerted to a new scam which has been tried in parts of Essex and East London. Uttlesford District Council are urging premises with alcohol licences to be aware of the fraud which involves fraudsters posing as council licensing officers.

The recent list of individuals appointed as Deputy Lieutenants of Essex included Colonel (Retd) Roger Burgess OBE, a resident of Thaxted, a former Chairman of the Debden Branch of the Royal British Legion, and current Essex County Chairman.

Uttlesford District Council runs a grant scheme to support local community groups. Leisure & Cultural grants and Sports Project grants are available to help pay for things such as training and equipment - individuals, groups and local branches of national organisations can apply.
